About the Bowling Green Hotel

The Bowling Green Hotel is placed perfectly in the historic naval city of Plymouth.

Directly opposite us is the world famous bowling green where Sir Francis Drake calmly finished his game before sailing to successfully defend England's shores from the full might of the Spanish Armada. This, of course, is also where we get our name.Like the Bowling Green itself, the Bowling Green Hotel enjoys a long-standing reputation within the city and beyond.

Even before Elizabethan times, right up to the 21st Century, visitors have enjoyed the beauty of the sea in Plymouth.

A few short steps away, you can enjoy the elegant splendour of Plymouth Hoe, from where strollers can see Drake's Island, the many and various boats which give locals so much pleasure, right across Plymouth Sound and to the breakwater beyond.

This elegant Georgian hotel has superbly appointed bedrooms offering all the modern facilities the traveller requires. With a full breakfast menu and friendly efficient staff, you can be sure of a memorable visit to our wonderful city.

The Bowling Green Hotel is centrally situated for the Barbican, the National Marine Aquarium, the Theatre Royal, the Pavilions Leisure/Conference Centre and the ferry port with its regular crossings to Spain and France.

Visitors to our hotel can enjoy the comfort and service of which we are so proud whilst planning whether to spend their day either on the sea, so close to hand, or in the natural beauty of Dartmoor National Park, just 20 minutes away.

Wherever you choose to go in the day, you can look forward to returning to the Bowling Green Hotel.
